Counselling is about giving you the space and time to talk through issues or concerns that you may feel are overwhelming you. When you feel lost or stuck it can be difficult to know who to talk to and you may not want to burden your family or friends. At times like this talking to a trained professional can give you support either in the short term or long term.
Sometimes the environment in which we live does not offer us the space or support to express our thoughts and feelings and we repress them. These thoughts and feelings are then frequently expressed in depression, anxiety, mood swings or physical symptoms. Counselling or psychotherapy can offer an opportunity to explore this hidden inner world
In therapy sessions I work with the client to decide what approach is going to be most beneficial. Two approaches CBT, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy which research has shown can help with addiction, depression, anxiety, self esteem and many other issues, and TA, Transactional Analysis which can be useful when trying to understand our past or make sense of current relationships. How we will work together will be talked through in your first session so that we can jointly decide on your therapy pathway.
I am also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) which can assist with trauma, anxiety, panic, disturbing memories, post traumatic stress and many other emotional problems.
